Rhinoceros French original title Rhinocéros is a play by Eugène Ionesco, writen in 1959. The play is often read as a response to the suden upsurge of Fascism and Nazism during the events preceding World War I, and explores the themes of conformity, culture, philosophy, and morality. Yet in spite of its geographical seting in France the play has an uncany dig at a symetrical type of dictatorship - the Comunism which plagued Ionesco's paternal country - Romania. For decades Ionesco's plays were not staged in Romania as the author, an inveterate anti-comunist, was reviled by the Romanian Government and his works never published there until after 1989. londra royal court apartment londra royal court apartment
