red carpetandmovie stars::The modern city grew from a small fishing town on the south coast of france, once owned by cistercian monks who also controlled, mougins and vallauris.
The monks outgrew their monastery expanding to the nearby island of st honorat.
While the monastery is only accessible for weeklong retreats, the islands old church is open to the public.
The boxy lookout tower the monks built to keep watch for saracen pirates, still stands next to the castre museum the former hilltop chateau of the monks.
The museum has a fascinating swag of spoils from shipwrecks off the coast including roman and saracen ceramics.
