I have a maxx chain grinder and found this engine can pull some mighty aggressive chains through hardwood.
The book calls for a 40 degree grinder head angle and zero offset from centerline, which cuts fine but dulls fast in dirty and frozen hardwood.
We settled on a 50 degree grinder angle offset 10 degrees aft of the cutter and the same raker.
This made the chain last much longer with little kickback.
This saw shares a lot of parts with other models so finding wear parts like bars, chain and chain drives is easy.
Engine parts like gaskets, rings, pistons and cylinders are relatively cheap from baileys or other sources.
For years i used a stihl 029.
It is lighter but not as powerful.
A great farm and cabin saw.
The 046 is quite heavy and a bit much for limbing.
The husky fills the gap.
